Yes We Can!
It’s time for change, everywhere.

Yesterday was a momentous day for the entire country because we showed the world that we can have change of leadership without war, pain, or loss of life. We make change happen by actively participating in our local, state and national communities. Regardless of your political affiliation, this miracle of our democratic republic is inspirational to the whole world, nations and individuals alike.

Time to change in our businesses and our offices too! As we’ve already have 2 weeks of January to get back into the swing of things, here are some organizing and efficiency tips, some collaboration ideas, and of course, some sexy cool products for you to buy and try congress

Accountability Check-in:

How are you doing on those goals you set at the beginning of the year?

Now is the time to check in on those written goals. Don't wait until December to review how you've done. If you need some assistance in sticking to your plan, that's what we do. Send us an email, we'll support you in getting it done.

Filing cabinetsWhat’s your priority?

What is the most important task for you in 2009?
January is the month of the “new” and “get up and run”. Starting in January, we’re talking with clients about what is their end goal. We’re telling them to start with the end in mind.

Here are some key questions for you to start the New Year with the goal of maximizing your time and energy in January. As you start any project ask yourself and write down in detail:

  • If I had a magic wand, what would I want this project to look like and feel like?
  • If money were no object, how would I make this project happen?
  • Am I the one that needs to control this? Is there someone else that has better skills for this project?
  • How much time do I think this will take me? Double that.
Once you have written down the answers to these questions, you will have done two things:
1) Become very clear on what you want this to look like so you can work to a clear goal,
     not a nebulous fuzzy picture
2) Identified if you are really the one to do this work or if you should farm it out to save
     you time and energy.

The National Association of Professional Organizers calls January “GO” or “Get Organized” Month. So, let’s GO and hit the ground running by getting clear on our priorities!

Collaboration Manifesto

Collaboration ManifestoThe third quarter of 2008 was an exciting one for everyone in the world! Every single business owner and entrepreneur we spoke with said that the world stopped in October. Because of that, they started doing things they had never done before. Reaching out to “competitors” and vendors, entrepreneurs collaborated with one another and have continued to collaborate to get over the speed bump in our economy.

To that end, we’re collecting stories of how you are collaborating with the people around you to create business in 2009. Please email us at collaboration@roomtobreathe.org and tell us what you’re doing.

If you haven’t started collaborating yet, start today by asking yourself these questions:

  • What project are you currently working on that is draining your time?
  • What is your competitor doing about this same project?
  • What would it look like if you called them up and took them for coffee and shared best practices?
