Choose! Plan! Start!

Turn your resolutions into actions...

Happy New Year! So many exciting things happen in January! My mom's birthday, the days are noticeably longer, and many of us make New Year’s resolutions.

January is all about fresh starts and focus. Read my recent article in the Sacramento Bee for some tips on getting organized at home. Also, take a look at Get Organized Month information from the National Association of Professional Organizers.

I am truly grateful for your support throughout 2006 and look forward to supporting you on your organizational journey in 2007.

It’s going to be a magnificent year for choosing, planning and starting to get organized!

Jessica

Where is the time to get organized?

"I just don’t have the time to get organized!"

How many of us have said this at one point or another in our lives? We all have so much to do. Between working, taking care of family members, and being involved in volunteer and extra-curricular activities, it is tough to squeeze much more into our days.

Being organized is a habit, one that is deliberately chosen. And, like any choice, it needs to be made over and over again until the habit sticks. Many of you have heard me speak about reclaiming the lost hour in a day from disorganization. If you haven’t heard my message before, and are looking for the magic pill to swallow to get organized, here it is:

  • 30 Minutes A Day

Take 30 minutes each day to start and maintain the habit of staying organized. On the first day, set a timer for 30 minutes, and make a list of things that need to be organized. Answer these questions: If there were something that frustrates me in my office what would it be? If there is something I just can’t find all the time, what is it? On the second day, set your timer for 30 minutes, look at one item on your list, and create and implement a solution for it. Each day, work on your list to get and maintain your organization. In no time at all you will reach your goal.

Staying organized is a habit that you can achieve when you break it down into small sections of only 30 minutes a day.
