Women’s Empowerment: Looking for 40 People!

The Women’s Empowerment project is an overwhelming success! Thanks to all of you who contributed your time, treasure and talents. We’ve done so much with the donations received and the offices look 100% different (see the photos!) Considering there was no budget, we did phenomenally well.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get everything donated. We’ve got about $800 worth of supplies and programming that we need to cover. It is work that needs to get done. So this is a blatant request for money. I’m looking for 40 people who are willing to contribute $20 each! Imagine, for $20, the price of a movie, you can help women help themselves and have a direct effect on someone’s life! Please consider sending a check directly to Women’s Empowerment, 1400 North C Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 and in the memo line write “Office Makeover”. And, we’ll even send you a tax deduction receipt!

Here are the names of the folks who gave their time, effort and talents. It’s wonderful when we all work together to help others help themselves!

Chris Lattuada at B Line Construction (916-646-6391) donated the cost of labor for painting the interior of the Women’s Empowerment Warehouse offices and boy does it look MAGNIFICENT! Ricardo and Memo worked like the wind and got it all done in a just over one day.

Lilly Kristianson at Sierra Glass Block (916-455-5507) arranged for Dunn Edwards (916-452-5451) to donate 30 gallons of paint. Yes, that’s a lot of paint!

Patrick Vosburg at Desperate Households (888-747-0957) donated the cost of labor and the supplies to come in and clean the carpets on Thursday night for a whopping 4 hours after working a full day at one of his huge contracts.

Fred Lowenstein at Affordatel (916-961-4066) will be donating a new phone system so the employees of WE don’t have to yell over the cubicles as an intercom.

Deanna Meyer, Sales Representative for Synectic (916-984-5525) has arranged for her company to donate the programming for the new telephone system.

Trish Harrington with CMIT (916-972-9111) has sent an IT professional over to make sure we’re all connected correctly with our computers.

Jake Favour (916-709-3057) is the designer who is helping to make sure the layout is what we need it to be to meet the needs of Women’s Empowerment and that it’s aesthetically pleasing to support the growing and strengthening work of WE.

Corporate Design Group (916-781-6543) and Benchmark Office Services (916) 852-8155 are donating new bookshelves for the offices.

Judy Little at California Moving Systems (916-362-1515) has arranged for 100+ moving boxes for us to use to pack up all of the “stuff” that’s in the warehouse space. Couldn’t have done any of this without those boxes!

Andrew Dolling with Forced Air Systems (415-706-2221) is going to come in and make sure our heater is quietly working away while class is in session.

Use Color to Help You

I don’t know about you, but I am bombarded with all the different things I have to do during the day. I run my business and I work in my business. And inevitably, all of the file folders get stacked up on my desk. Once I discovered the miracle of color and how it could help me stay organized, however, this problem disappeared. I’ve deliberately used color to define my client files versus my marketing files, my administration files, and my vendor files. When I have a million things on my desk it’s so much easier to find what I am looking for because I have associated color with that area. It also shows me how much I am actually working on at any given time and is teaching me to focus. So how many others out there have this problem and use color to help them? If you’re not using it, give it a try. Trust me, it works.

Of course, if you’re getting stuck figuring out how to best set up your files, we’d love to help you! Give us a call at 916-444-7666 to get some room to breathe!

Residential Services

As we head into autumn, the weather is starting to change. It’s hot, it’s cold. And I’m not talking hot flashes. I’m sure you’re thinking, “What do I wear? Do I really need to buy new clothes? What’s happened to that sweater I love so much? And where am I going to put it all? Can’t I just build another closet?”

I don’t know about you, but I dread the thought of getting rid of a lot of my clothes. I want to keep everything, especially the skirt that is about 2 sizes too small, you know the one, it’s the “I’m going to fit get into it someday skirt.” Doesn’t everyone have a “motivational skirt or dress” that they’re going to fit into one day?

Yes, you’re worth new clothes, but not at the price of not being able to find them at the back of the closet in a couple of week’s time. Take a look at what’s in your closet now. Don’t be afraid to dig through the piles. They won’t bite. Take a long look at what you wear all the time and what you haven’t worn in the last 2 years and ask yourself these questions: Does it make me look fabulous? Why am I hanging onto this? Am I really ever going to fit into it again?

If you get stuck on how to go through the clothes, or need help asking yourself those tough questions and holding yourself accountable, give us a call at (916) 444-7666.
